What are electromagnetic fields?
The earth is circumvented by pulses of electromagnetic energy at the same frequency as our brain waves (7.83 Hz). Being connected to this energy, by directly being in contact with the earth, has been shown to be vital to human health. Our contact with the earth’s magnetic energy has become compromised from physical barriers such as pavement and buildings and also electromagnetic field (EMF) interference from things like cell phones, computer networks and wifi routers which emit frequencies that do not match the earth and our body.
How Does This Relate to Aging?
As we age in this electro-smog era, we are becoming more deficient in the magnetic energy required by each organ and the brain is no exception. Neuroplasticity explains how the brain changes over time in response to the type of activities we perform most often and over time, unused brain pathways deemed non critical get dimmed. Research shows that exposure to pulses of magnetic fields that are identical to the earth’s frequency, called PEMF therapy, offers a wide range of health benefits specifically for brain related disorders and other diseases associated with aging.
PEMF therapy explained
Pulsed Electro Magnetic Field (PEMF) therapy generates a magnetic field that is identical to the frequency of the earth. There are many FDA-approved PEMF devices across a wide range of indications such as depression, bone healing, and brain cancer. In brain cancer, PEMF therapy was proven in clinical trials to be more effective than chemotherapy, with no harmful side effects. Many studies show PEMF therapy improves patients with neuro degenerative disease, stroke, migraine and psychiatric disorders and it has the added benefit of no harmful side effects.
How does PEMF work on the body?
PEMF devices infuse body cells with magnetic energy which help them to function optimally. PEMF therapy causes blood cells become unclumped or move out of “Rouleaux” which improves circulation and maximizes tissue oxygenation and waste removal, providing the ultimate detoxification. Regular use offers both therapeutic and anti-aging benefits, as every system in the body is improved by the magnetic energy boost.
Can PEMF be used on the head?
PEMF is safe to use directly on the head, neck and face and in fact there are a number of FDA-approved devices designed for the head such as TMS for depression, Cefaly for migraines, and Optune for brain cancer. Whole body PEMF therapy also benefits the brain because blood cells infused with magnetic energy flow more efficiently which is essential to improving micro circulation in the small vessels in the head.
How does PEMF improve age-related decline?
PEMF therapy protects the brain against glutamate-induced excitotoxicity which is the pathogenesis of neuro degenerative diseases such as Multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer's disease, Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), Fibromyalgia, Parkinson's disease, and Huntington's. Many studies show that PEMF therapy can heal damaged neurons resulting in improved memory, alertness, and cognition.
PEMF has also been shown to increase peripheral nerve regeneration in stroke and Parkinson’s Disease patients and it improves PD symptoms such as tremor, slowness of movement and difficulty in walking. Exciting new studies in Alzheimer’s Disease show that PEMFs modulate neurophysiological brain circuits, stimulate tissue regeneration and brain signaling and influence physiological networks that become dysregulated in AD. Even patients with mild brain inflammation such as in early Alzheimer’s would stand to benefit from PEMF therapy.
Does PEMF Cause an “Awakening?” In the Brain
PEMF has been shown to activate neural pathways outside of the brain’s “default mode network”, such as the limbic regions involved in emotion and memory. This topic is of increasing interest in neuroscience and in popular literature on mind expansion such as in Michael Pollan’s “How to Change Your Mind.” It’s an exciting time to be discovering tools and interventions that individuals can use without a doctor’s prescription to activate dimmed brain function and prevent their own cognitive decline.
